IFSEC Bulletin: September

Welcome to your monthly IFSEC Bulletin, brought to you by security news site info4security.com.

Just as IFSEC is the live destination to discover the latest in security products and developments, info4security is your year round online destination for security news, products and opinions.

IFSEC was way back in May, of course (you can relive the sights of the show by visiting our popular galleries) and the next big event on the UK security calendar is the Security Excellence Awards, which take place on October 19 at the Park Lane Hilton in London. Find out who all the finalists are by clicking here. Then book your tickets for the event by visiting this link.

Since our last, post-IFSEC missive, the UK rioting violence and the 10th anniversary of 9/11 have occurred. We reported on the rioting as it was ongoing – see my take here, and SMT Online editor Brian Sims’ view here. We also asked, post-riots: Why are we not shouting about the value of CCTV? And this week we published an article on the lessons to be learned from the unrest.

Also this week, Brian Sims looked back at the way that 9/11 changed security– and the world. Jamie Wilson asked if airport security had improved a decade on from the terror attacks. And Peter Houlis looked at CCTV and its role in the counter-terror agenda.

We regularly feature exclusive interviews with major figures in the security industry. Recently Brian spoke with James Dinsdale of G4S Cash Solutions UK, and with Bob Forsyth, MD of MITIE Total Security Management.

Recently we’ve featured stories on a security firm which has made a £22,000 saving by introducing fleet management technology; on the rise in domestic burglaries and violent criminality in the UK, according to the British Crime Survey; on Physical Security Information Management, or PSIM; and on an important emerging trend, security convergence.

Our video content continues to be massively popular – we keep an eye out for interesting security-related videos for your viewing enjoyment. So, for instance, we’ve got a house explosion caught on CCTV; robbers thwarted by an angry chihuahua; a particularly drunk individual caught on camera; and a 55-year old woman and her dog fighting off a knife wielding intruder.

You can also download the latest security product catalogues from a variety of suppliers at our Product Catalogues section.

Don’t forget that most Fridays on info4security we run our Songs About Security feature. It’s a music video that is somehow tangentially (often very, very tangentially) related to the security industry. It’s just a bit of fun. Visit our Songs About Security archive here to see what we have featured in the past.

To keep right up to date with the latest goings on at I4S, you can sign up for our weekly security news digest newsletter, or our fortnightly installation and end user bulletins. Click here to start receiving those. You can also follow info4security on Twitter: @info4security

And do feel free to email me with story ideas, Songs About Security suggestions, or feedback: ahildebrand@info4security.com.
