Brian was appointed Editor of Security Management Today (SMT) in November 2000. In 2006, he received the Skills for Security Special Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Security Business Sector. In 2005, Brian received the BSIA Chairman’s Award (for Promoting The Industry) and, in 2008, was The Security Institute’s nomination for the Association of Security Consultants’ prestigious Imbert Prize.
An Honorary Fellow of The Security Institute and a member of the Risk and Security Management Forum, Brian sits on the Judging Panels for the Security Excellence Awards, the BSIA’s Security Personnel of the Year Awards, the Skills for Security National Training Awards, the IFSEC Awards, the Securitas Security Services Good Customer Award and the Inspiration in HR Award.
In late 2008, Brian became the Editor of Security Management Today Online and was also promoted to Group Content Editor for UBM Live’s Security Portfolio (with additional responsibilities for SMT SELECT, the Security Excellence Awards, conferences and webinars). Brian’s currently pioneering digital media developments across the security sector.
Mike Alexander BEM MSc FSyI
Global Head of Business Security and Safety, Henderson Global Investors
Mike spent 23 years with the Royal Marine Commandos before serving with the Ministry of Defence in the realm of counter-sabotage surveying. Entering the commercial world, Mike then spent over a decade as head of security with BT Global Services before joining Henderson Global Investors and the world of financial asset management security. Mike is also the chairman of ASIS International’s UK Chapter.
Superintendent Jonathan Brady
Head of the Metropolitan Police Service's Protective Security Co-Ordinator Unit
Jonathan Brady heads the Metropolitan Police Service's Protective Security Co-Ordinator Unit, and indeed is the most senior Secco in the Met. His latest task was to develop and implement the security plan for the Royal Wedding on Friday 29 April.
Alex Carmichael
Director, Technical and Membership Services, British Security Industry Association
Alex is responsible for co-ordinating all technical, quality and membership matters within the Trade Association. These duties include acting as a representative on various UK and European standards committees, and acting as the UK representative on various Cenelec and Euralarm committees monitoring EU Directives that impact BSIA members. In addition, Alex is responsible for membership liaison within the BSIA and liaison with potential members. He works closely with other industry organisations (such as the ABI, ACPO, ACPOS and numerous inspectorates) on technical and other issues that may affect the BSIA’s members.
Professor Martin Gill FSyI
Director, Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International
Martin has a particular interest in business crime and the security sector. The types of projects he has been involved in (with Perpetuity colleagues) include the causes of false burglar alarms, why fraudsters steal, the effectiveness of CCTV and security officers, how companies protect their brand image, the generators of illicit markets and stolen goods (to name but a few). A Professor of Criminology, Martin is a Fellow of The Security Institute, a member of The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (and a Freeman of the City of London) and chairman of the ASIS Research Council.
Jeff Little OBE MBA
CEO, National Security Inspectorate
Jeff Little previously served a long and distinguished career with the Amy and was recognised with an OBE for his leadership during the Balkans War. Jeff completed his illustrious career with the Armed Forces in 2008, having attained the senior position of director of the Royal Logistics Corps. He’s now in the process of taking forward the NSI’s development. Of late, Jeff has concentrated on initiating enhancements to the Inspectorate’s online services, for example, in the arenas of standards, certification and on-site auditing capabilities as well as contributing to the work of The Security Alliance.
David Robinson
Head of Information Assurance, Security and Compliance, Raytheon UK
David is the head of information assurance, security and compliance at Raytheon UK (headline sponsor of this year’s Future of Security Competition). Raytheon is a technology and innovation leader specialising in defence, Homeland Security and other Government markets throughout the world. With a history of innovation spanning 89 years, the company provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing, effects, command and control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a broad range of mission support services.
Peter Varnish OBE FREng
Peter Varnish completed a highly distinguished career in the UK Ministry of Defence, and has since been recognised as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Peter has used his experience in security and defence technologies to identify many novel and profitable technologies over the years, in turn creating a number of new and successful companies. He regularly chairs international conferences, and has given many keynote papers on the topics of security and national defence.
