How lighting affects surveillance
As part of IFSEC International’s investment into educational show content, this brand new feature area in Hall 5 will demonstrate how different lighting conditions affect surveillance.
Representing IP camera technology, a number of manufacturers including Samsung, Tyco, Genie CCTV and Merit Lilin will be demonstrating their cameras in this feature area. Raytec will provide the lighting, Milestone will act as the VMS platform provider, and Controlled Limited will play the role of integrator. UBM would also like to thank the kind participation of Rotatest UK who have provided our Rotakins.
Visitors to this product demo area will be able observe the product demonstrations via four large scale plasma screens and individually across the sponsors own demonstration pods. The four rooms will feature different lighting conditions and include the following area’s
- Room one – Infra –Red
- Room two -Street Scene
- Room three – White Light
- Room four – Challenge Lighting
These purpose built rooms will demonstrate how the effective use of lighting and surveillance solutions can overcome these extreme and challenging conditions.
This feature area is a must see for all installers, integrators and end-users who want see camera and lighting technology working together in a real environment.

Visitors Experience
Visitors will be able to view each room with manufacturers demonstrating how their camera technology has overcome the lighting conditions and how effectively they have picked up the moving image located at the far end of each room.
The rooms will be in:
- Complete darkness
- Low Light lighting
- Extreme or White Light
Key reasons for visitors to attend:
- Provide visitors with a hands-on experience and see for themselves the latest IP camera technology in action in a real environment.
- Educate end-users on how to use cameras effectively in difficult lighting conditions
- Showcase existing and emerging technologies
- LIVE Camera demonstrations to engage and interact directly with visitors
Thank you to our sponsors

Controlled Ltd is proud to be part of this exciting new event launching at IFSEC 2012. As a systems integrator with a high profile client base spanning varying market sectors we work closely with end users and their consultants to design the systems that best suit their application. Throughout our years of engineering experience Controlled Ltd have developed an understanding of the possible effects that varying environmental elements can have on system components, such as differing and extreme lighting conditions in CCTV applications . When we were offered the opportunity to work closely with such a select and reputable group of sponsors and manufacturers in bringing this concept to life in real time display conditions we were only too happy to assist. For a prospective end user this is an excellent opportunity to view the effects on real time camera images under different simulated lighting conditions. |

Rotatest Ltd and CCTV in Focus Ltd distribute the Rotakin all around the world to enable all CCTV installers to install CCTV systems ensuring high quality images are produced, and make sure the systems are operating at the peak of their efficiency. We strongly believe that any CCTV system should be correctly deployed from specification through to installation and maintenance. Rotatest and CCTV in Focus were formed specifically to promote greater awareness of the need to correctly test and measure CCTV systems using the Rotakin to the BS EN 50132-7 STANDARD which has also been adopted by the South Africans into their SANS 10222 5-1-4 STANDARDS, making Rotakin a mandatory industry standard. Rotatest can supply the Rotakin to any installer of CCTV systems around the world to make sure the system is fit for purpose, or you could employ the services of our sister company CCTV in Focus to independently audit and test any CCTV system to the BS EN 50132-7 standard and accredited ‘Secured by Design’. CCTV in Focus could also help you to draw up the ‘operational requirement’ document for your CCTV system. |

Although there will be no shortage of daylight hours over the coming months, it is a simple fact during every single night throughout the year it will get dark at some point. Low light image capture is therefore an important consideration when designing a video surveillance solution. Low light cameras help to reduce costs as they do not require the capital and running costs of installing wide-area supplementary lighting to make CCTV effective in night time conditions. The majority of Samsung cameras feature either true day/night capability, with a built-in IR cut filter, or software day/night functionality to give the desired level of low light video capture depending on the user requirement and budget. When this is coupled with specific low-light processing technology such as Samsung Super Noise Reduction (SSNR), which is designed specifically to reduce image noise in low light conditions without creating ghosting or image blur, the results are amazing. In fact, we are able to reproduce excellent colour images at lighting levels where in the past cameras would have had to switch to monochrome mode as a result of this technology and also save up to 70% of hard disk space by not recording useless noise. |
